One day, a proud prince called Nephrite and his companions were hunting when a poor-looking woman appeared in the woods. She begged the prince for one of the rabbits they had caught to feed her children, and offered the prince a rose as payment. He laughed at the woman. Why would he want such a puny rose? The woman revealed herself to be a powerful enchantress then, transforming him in a beast to match his inhumane character, and the servants into inanimate objects.

Some time later, a doctor got lost in the woods after visiting a patient in a distant village and ended up in the beast's castle. The beast demanded that she cured his curse, but as it wasn't a medical condition, she couldn't do anything to help him. Angry, the beast locked her up in the castle's dungeon.

Still confused, the beast let Ami and the servants drag him to his bedroom. Why was the girl suddenly wanting to help him? He had thought she hated him...? He was even ignoring all the servants talking over each other and fussing. (It made them more worried that he wasn't yelling and throwing things around.)

"Ami-chan, what happened? Are you hurt too?", Usagi asked while they walked to the castle's west wing.

It wasn't about liking him or not liking him. It was just... seeing him hurt, she wanted to help. At least with the injuries. He had done things to her that weren't nice, but that didn't mean she wanted to see him injured and possibly even- (How bad were the injuries? She was a little afraid of finding out,)

Ami shook her head at Usagi. "I'm alright," she claimed. "But..." she glanced beside her, "He was hurt." Well, yes. That was obvious. But she couldn't quite confess it was her fault. Especially not to the cheerful Usagi, who so far believed that Ami was a nice and cheerful person.

"I'm glad you are not hurt! But I'll ask Mako-chan to make you some hot cocoa later anyway! The monsters in the forest are so scary, aren't they?" Usagi had been surprised by a monster once when she was still human, but luckily, she managed to run back to the castle as fast as she could. Since then, going out at night was a big no for her.

The other servants helped the beast lay down on his bed and take off his bloody clothes, and he felt so tired… He just wanted to be left alone and sleep off the pain, but they kept telling him to stay awake… As he was too tired to yell at them, the beast replied to their questions with nothing but annoyed grunts. There were deep gashes all over his body, and some were still bleeding a lot.

Ami managed to nod. She'd been very scared of the monsters in the forest, to be honest. Known as the bookish, smart girl of the village, she wasn't exactly known for fighting.

She took in the beast's wounds - Nephrite's wounds - with a look of alarm. She did know something about those. Talking to the servants, she requested bandages and antiseptic to clean the wounds in a low voice. "After all, even if we take care of them, we have to make sure they don't become infected."
